Bristol Ferry Articulture is an adventure and a merging of skills and passion for Vince Agliata and his wife Kathy Pavlakis, a ceramic artist, decorator and avid collector of art. From the renovations of their 1920’s Arts and Crafts bungalow that is now their gallery, to the unique collection of lamps, their's is not of the mundane or to be found elsewhere. Always of the philosophy that art is best lived when also functional, Kathy and Vince specialize in custom and vintage lamps, on which they freely exercise artistic license. Their lamps are works of art.
Vince grew up in New Jersey and spent most of his working life in sales. In his spare time he built things, all kinds of things, dabbled in photography and used his uncanny ability to fix things, his and every one else’s. At the gallery Vince creates unusual lamps, and has an uncanny ability to fix and restore just about anything clients bring in. He is in charge of all the lamp wiring, and no lamps leaves the shop that is not completely rewired and safe. Forever curious , Vince is always on the lookout for new and imaginative things to create lamps for the Gallery.
The lure of ceramic art began in the ninth grade for Kathy at Ponaganset High School in Northern Rhode Island. She credits her art teacher , mentor and life long friend , Barbara Wigren, for nurturing her interest in art, particularly ceramics and oil painting, which has remained her passion. Kathy lived in and around New York City for 20 years during which she established herself as a ceramic tile artist. Through interior designers and her own contacts, Kathy adorned the walls, back splashes and fire place surrounds of many homes from California to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket with themes of nature, urban and country life and beyond. In addition to tiles, Kathy creates a menagerie of interesting and functional ceramic things. As of late her concentration has been ceramic lamps. From classic to whimsical, Kathy can create a lamp for you, in the theme or color of your choice. No two lamps are ever alike, unless they are sold in pairs...
Fast forward twenty years and in second marriages for both, Kathy and Vince live in Portsmouth Rhode Island, on the Sakonnet River, in a home filled with art, color and panoramic views of the water. When not creating at the gallery they enjoy spending as much time as they can with their friends and family and taking their little boat “La Barca” out for a cruise on beautiful Narragansett Bay.
